About Randy Voepel

Randy Voepel has been the conservative voice for East County San Diego for the past 26 years. Prior to his election to the California State Assembly in 2016, Randy served as a Santee City Councilmember from 1996-2000, and Mayor of Santee from 2000-2016.

As a California State Assemblymember for the 71st Assembly District, Randy serves as the Vice-Chair of the Aging and Long-Term Care Committee and the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. He also serves on multiple other committees such as the Assembly Committees on Insurance, CalPERS, Local Government, and the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.

While serving as the Mayor of Santee, he helped turn Santee into one of San Diego County’s premier communities. The city has become known for its family-friendly atmosphere with great schools, low crime, and affordable housing options.

As Mayor, Voepel helped implement pro-business policies that attracted restaurants, as well as vibrant new retail, residential, and office development. He also worked to establish a teen center, ball fields and recreational activities for children and families while contracting out recreation programs to the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club to improve service levels while cutting pension obligations.

By implementing a vision of limited-government at the local level, Voepel’s leadership allowed Santee to boast the best business climate, lowest pension obligations, and most efficient government in the region.

When Randy first ran for Assembly in 2016, his goal was to implement this vision in Sacramento --to return jobs to our state, restore financial strength, and ensure California remains a great place to raise a family and pursue the American Dream.

He has kept this promise to his constituents by continually opposing legislation that would eliminate jobs, hurt the middle class, infringe on constitutional rights, raise taxes, and push big-government ideals.

Randy is a U.S. Navy veteran, serving two combat tours in Vietnam. As a member of the Santee Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9327, he remains active and constantly offers helps to veterans in his community.

Voepel is a graduate from Saint Leo University, he was a businessman in financial services specializing in corporate benefits.  He is also active in his Church, four service clubs and the Boy Scouts.

Randy and his wife Susan have two adult children and three grandchildren.
